Sometime in 1943, a formation of early model B-25D Mitchell bombers of 491st Bomb Squadron are flying over the Chin Hills which separate far eastern India and northern Burma, including tail numbers #264650 (42-64650) and #129900 (41-29900).
Initially in WWII, U.S. Army Army Force aircraft had the USAAF serial number painted on the side of the vertical stabilizer(s). The format used started with the last digit of the year of the contract for the plane (ex., 1 for 1941; 2 for 1942), followed by the sequential number of USAAF aircraft contracted that year. Therefore, "29900" was the 29,900th aircraft contracted for USAAF in 1941.
