Anthony S. Kryscio

Anthony S. Kryscio, lost in the CBI during WWII in 1944.

Missing Air Crew Report (MACR) #5346  describes his loss. He flew over with the B-24 bomber airplane itself and was an early member of crew, from Pottsville, PA. Newspaper reports at the time said this was his first mission in China on coming from India (although other personal accounts make it his third mission.) Only two short letters from him in China were received from him before he was lost.

Anthony Stanislaus Kryscio was born 13 June 1918 in Minersville, Pennsylvania. He attended the Minersville High School. His parents Anthony S. Kryscio and Veronica (Kasnikowska) Kryscio were immigrants from Poland, and had 5 children total. Sgt. Kryscio's father died on January 10, 1942, 28 years after coming from Poland, after four years being an invalid caused by a work accident at a coal mine.

Anthony Kryscio enlisted on July 29, 1942 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, among 101 total inducted that day at Sheridan school. However, only seven of the men departed right away for service, so Anthony Kryscio was immediately put on furlough along with the remaining men. At enlistment, he resided in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was recorded as single, without dependents.

After he was eventually called up in August, 1942, he received training at Miami Beach, Florida, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Langley Field, Virginia.
