14th AF HQ & HQ Sub-Collection

Enlisted men of the 14th AF HQ & HQ Squadron and 18th Photo Intelligence Detachment.

Enlisted men of the 14th AF HQ & HQ Squadron or 18th Photo Intelligence Detachment.  These images were part of a fairly large subset among the images collected by the editors of Ex-CBI Roundup (usually through reader submission) over many years of publication, and shared with the Remembering Shared Honor project.

Unfortunately, the name of the collector/photographer is unknown, but this subset contains a wide range of images covering China and the region, as well as the trip home to the US after leaving the CBI at the end of the war.  Many of the images have detailed notations on the back. Images with locations in China include Kunming and surrounding locations like Chenggong, and the Camp Schiel Rest Station a bit further east, as well as A-5 air base near Chengdu, and the road to it from Kunming. Other locations include several in India, and on the peaceful trip back to the US on a returning B-24 bomber.  Specific locations noted on the images on the way back home, either for flyover or crew stops, include Rupsi and Karachi, India, Abadan, Iran, Georgetown, British Guiana, Cairo Egypt (and the Suez Canal), Tripoli, Libya, Dakar, Senegal, San Juan and Borinquen Field, Puerto Rico, and West Palm Beach, Florida. A note mentions crew stops without pictures in Marrakech, Monaco, and Hatal, Brazil.

Clip of collector of this set of images.
Close-up of unknown collector of this set of images, unfortunately half hidden behind the barrel of a rifle.

On a couple images is marked 'me' in ink, below is the most clear image (taken from the image above).  Presumably this is the photo collector, a member of "enlisted" personnel. An alternative image, with helmets on, can be seen here. In one image he points to himself working out among the "orderly room personnel," but unhelpfully, he has his head turned down, so we cannot see him clearly.

In the CBI during WWII.
